A friend leaves a warm bed on a rainy night to dole out two consecutive boxes of Kleenex. Picks up the phone even though there are only a few minutes to spare. Skips Friday night dinner plans to shake up the ultimate “I hate him” martini. A friend brings ice cream.
Sometimes we qualify them: high school friend, college friend, best friend, family friend, work friend, acquaintance. Yet, no matter how you find them, a friend makes the world a much brighter place.
A true friendship will survive disagreements, new jobs, new relationships, family insanity, and moves across the country. It transcends any distance, any timeline, any lifestyle.
True friends are the family we choose.
Damn girl I must be a super sap because this post made me tear up! My best friend is moving to California (clear across the US!) at the end of June and I am so so sad but I know that our friendship will still be strong. Wish I could say that about friends who are staying, sadly I've recently grown apart from some, I let it happen though. I just grew up. Having friends does make the world a brighter place :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!! And also very true!
ReplyDeleteAh,I need more of those.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post. This is the truth.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet. I've lost a few friends by choice or not. My strongest friends are not geographically close but we know we are close emotionally. What is reassuring is at the age of 61 I keep making friends. Maybe not the same as my 30 plus year friendships, but strong connections. Gotta have the girlfriends.
ReplyDeleteYou speak the truth, my dear girl. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteLovely! :)

ReplyDeleteThat is a GREAT line.
This post made me well up. Beautiful words. :D
ReplyDeleteLove it! What a great pic too!
ReplyDeleteI had dinner with a friend this weekend. It's amazing what unconditional support, a swift kick in the ass and martinis can do for your outlook. I always feel better about where I'm at and where I'm headed after a conversation with my friends.
ReplyDeleteyep, you caught me in my "sappy" stage of pms...thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteGoing through a break-up, I am realizing how true this is. Need my friends like whoa.
ReplyDeletea thoughtful and poignant post...I promptly forwarded it on to my BFF.
