Liz Tells You What To Read, Volume 1

Old readers, you all remember my 12 year old sister, Liz. New readers, you can read about her here. My sister is seriously 12, but if you read her book reviews on goodreads you might think otherwise. I always look forward to Liz giving a smashing review on whatever book she is reading (and were not talking tween stuff here. Her and I swap books). So I decided to give her a "column" on my blog. When she is done reading a book, she must review it for me here. So with that being said, I give you the first edition of.....
Today's book of choice, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Take it away, Liz.

Actually I think practically anyone could read this book. Personally, I love when you can relate to characters and in some ways I did relate to the main character, Charlie. Honestly, I can see why people judge this book. It does have drugs and sex(seriously what T.V. Shows don't these days?) but anyone who just looks at that aspect of the book is a narrow minded person (no offense).
To summarize this book I would say it is an easy read with great one liners that you'll enjoy if you have an open mind."

Yes, friends. She is only 12 (13, actually, in 18 days).

  1. Yay Liz! Great review, you cultured young lady! It's nice that you aren't writing reviews like most 12 year olds I see, that say things like "U will luv this book B-koz its gr8" :)

  4. I LOVE that book. We read it for our 6th form book club. My teacher's in his early 30s and he loves it too so it's really not just for teens.

It has some very interesting philosophical ideas in it which you can so easily brush over. That's probably the 'great one liners' Liz referred to. One of these is as Charlie and his two friends are driving along in the car, listening to music and he says that, 'in that moment, I swear we were infinite'. Flipping amazing! :)

Another awesome thing, which is totally relevant to here, is that this book is made up of Charlie's letters to someone he does not know. It's a form of therapy for him, to write, even though no one might be reading. I think that's just like blogging. Certainly I use my blog as somewhere to express myself much in the way that Charlie uses those letters to an unknown 'friend'.

    ANYWAY!

I adored that book, as may be evident. I suggest everyone reads it!

And, Liz, you're fab! The world would be a better place if more 12-year-olds were like you.

  7. She's so cute & wrote a great review! I hate when reviews drag on, I like that she got straight to the point.

    Nicely done :)

  9. I'm 15 years older than Liz, but I still remember what it felt like to be her age very well...and I recall feeling rather out of place because I was reading things like this (and whatever my father suggested--often along the lines of The Clan of the Cave Bear and Follow the River)...and the fact that on the first day of sixth grade at a new school, I announced to the class that my favorite song was (is) Beethoven's 7th Symphony didn't help either.

    Stay true to yourself, Liz!

    Love,
    af

  10. although i doubt i will pick the book up for myself(no offense) i can appreciate a good review and i agree that reviews that get long winded bore me.

also i do have an advanced 10 year old that reads just as much as i do. she's already trying to post things on my blog and im like, 'no! there's swearing on there!' and she replies similarly as liz 'aww dad who cares. dont you always say its not the words its the message?'

damn...well put. ive taught her well

  13. I just stumbled on your blog, and Liz is great! I loved that book and need to read it again because it's been a while. Liz, didn't you love that Charlie liked girls who were unconventionally beautiful? I thought that was so sweet. My husband says that's code for ugly, but I disagree.

  14. Great idea for a column! I read a ton of books at that age, more than I read now!

  15. Your 12 year old sister is smarter than me! Seriously. HaHa. Love this review thing though. I haven't read this book and have heard mixed reviews so it's always nice to hear with others have to say.

I'd love to see what you have to say!
